Zija and Melaleuca | The House of Huff

So for those of you who know me, I am becoming more and more Green in my older days.  I am moving (as Toni would say) from soggy granola to straight crunchy.  HAHA!
No really, I am VERY into organic food, especially since I’ve had Mia.  With all of the pesticides and chemicals in our food these days, I’m SCARED.  I want my child, my family to be healthy.  Everyone talks about how expensive our grocery trips are to Whole Foods.  However, it is worth it to me.  COMPLETELY. WORTH. IT.
We have cut our budget in other places in order to buy all organic food.  Now, don’t get me wrong, we do have NON-organic things, obviously when we eat out.  I just make sure our groceries, and in particular our produce is organic.
Recently some friends/coworkers have started taking Zija.  Have you heard of this?  You can read about it here.  I am completely sold on the idea and am going to start selling it.  I just have to save up some money to get started.  I haven’t personally tried it myself yet, but people I know who have started it report increased energy, regulated bowel habits, weight loss and generalized increase in health.  The awesome thing is that Mia can do it as well.  Obviously not in the same dose as I, but she can still receive the health benefits!
There is also a company called Melaleuca.  They sell products that are better for your health and for the environment.  I plan on shopping for my cleaning supplies, medicines, etc. through this company.  You can read about Melaleuca here
Have you heard of this?  Tried it?  What do you think?

Question #7

If you could choose one book as a mandatory read for all high school students, what book would it be?
The Bible.  Hands down.
The Bible is the book of Life!
If more people read the good book, this world wouldn’t be in the shape that it is in.  We would have more love and kindness for one another.  We would have less violent crimes.  We would have morals and values that we could pass from generation to generation.
Oh, that would be the ideal world.
The Bible is a must read.

So here is a rundown of the past week…

I’m just gonna sum it all up, in bullet point format, because…just because.
*Last Tuesday:
We stayed home all day because Mia still wasn’t feeling well and was still running a low grade temp.
*Last Wednesday:
Same thing.  Still a sickly little girl, but we went outside to play a little with the water table.
IMG_4647IMG_4650IMG_4660
Amazing what a water table can do for your health :)
*Last Thursday:
I started to feel some “allergies” come on.  Mia still running a low grade temp.  We had an “adoption” celebration for some friends in our Sunday ABF class Thursday night.  We left Mia with her Nana and Papaw so we could go celebrate!  Josh and Tara adopted a precious little girl, and the 60 day wait period (where the mom or dad could change their mind and want the baby back) was OVER and we could all breathe a sigh of relief that Miss McKemie would be a permanent part of their family.  And oh she is already loved so so much!  We are so happy for Josh and Tara!  They deserve this baby SO much and they are just beaming with love and excitement!  God is good all the time!
IMG_4678
Such a sweet little girl :)
*Last Friday:
We took Mia to the doctor Friday morning, just to be told she had a virus that was going around.  I could have told you that, but with my baby, I would always rather be safe than sorry.  My “allergies” were awful.  However, I already had plans, so I had to suck it up!!  Some of us girls from our ABF class went on a Christian women’s retreat Friday and Saturday.  It was awesome fellowship and guess what the message/theme was??  Anxiety and worry.  God knows exactly how to talk directly to me.  I was convicted in each seminar.  I felt like I was the only person in the whole entire audience and that God was looking directly at me!  It was a great way to spend time with awesome girls and renew my heart and mind and grow closer to the Lord.

Aubrey and I when we arrived at the conference. Excuse my sickly eyes ;)
*Last Saturday:
Still feeling totally yucky.  At this point I’m realizing that it’s not just allergies, because this thing hadn’t let up.  AT ALL.  I dropped Aubrey off at home and headed home myself to see the hubster and my mini-me!  Oh, how I missed them so so much!  I wasn’t even gone for a full 24 hours, but still was so happy to get back home to my peeps!
Once I got home I just had to lay down because my head was throbbing, my nose was stopped up and my ears were clogged.  The good news is that Mia was feeling better!  I got a little rest and then Aubrey and Kevin came over to watch the Cards play!  Although I felt bad, we still had a great time, AND?  The Cards WON!  FINAL FOUR BABY!!!!
*Last Sunday:
Woke up to get ready for church only to find that we had NO water.  I told Dave and the first thing he said was “Did we pay the bill?”  HAHA!  Yes, yes we did.  Come to find out there was a water main break and we ended up not getting water until 2pm!  Needless to say, without showers and being able to brush our teeth, we didn’t go to church.  I’m sure all of our friends would be thankful :)  HA!
*Monday:
Mia had her hearing appointment.  After the hearing test, the results showed that her hearing is the same.  Just a mild hearing loss.  However, that was good news to me, because she currently has fluid on her ears (at least that is what the doctor told us on Friday).  So if her hearing is the same as previously, with fluid on her ears, is her hearing a bit better??  Who knows, but she acts like she hears perfectly.  At least when she WANTS too!  HAHA
IMG_4694IMG_4696
*Tuesday:
I couldn’t take it anymore.  I felt so horrible.  I couldn’t hear out of my right ear, both ears felt clogged and my head literally felt like it would pop off my shoulders.  My face was throbbing.  I had Dave just take me up to the Little Clinic inside Kroger.  And would you know it?  I have a sinus infection, fluid on both ears and an ear infection in my right ear!  Um, no wonder I feel so bad!!
I took some medicine and then we took Mia up to the local park…
IMG_4704IMG_4705IMG_4706IMG_4707
*Today:
Mia and I had hair trim appointments.  I ended up leaving, minus 6 inches of my hair.  Still not sure how I feel about that…

We finished out our night with a visit from Meme and Uncle B (Poppy has been working really hard and late) and some ice cream!
What did you over this past week?

One heck of a weekend | The House of Huff

We did so much. But not a lot.  Ya know?  It was weird.

A fun-and-mostly-good-but-some-bad type of weekend.

Friday night Mia and I just laid low and hung out at the house…

IMG_4579IMG_4589

My little goober.

Daddy sent me a picture of our gift…

IMG_4584

We aren’t going to tell Mia until the day we go!  It’s her birthday surprise!!

Saturday we we an ate lunch at Mark’s Feed Store and then went to spend some time at the park with Poppy and B!

IMG_4591

We came home after the park and took a little nap.  After nap was Uncle Charlie’s birthday party, so we went there to celebrate for a while!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t really enjoy it because every since I’ve had my gallbladder out, I’ve not quite been able to eat much without feeling sick.  Not much of an appetite and get kind of nauseous after I eat.  I've been told that is normal for a little bit after surgery and I’m not quite 2 weeks out, so I’m hoping they are right!

Sunday Mia woke up with a little cough and congestion.  I figured since we had had the windows open that it was most likely allergies.  I decided to give her some Claritin.  I’ve heard horror stories about Zyrtec and the way it affects kids moods, so I went with Claritin.

Never. Again.

She was in the most foul mood EVER.  Whiny about EVERYTHING, attitude out of control and so groggy she looked like she had been drinking!  HA!

We went to church anyway and then stopped by to visit Noona, Ky-wool and the boys before heading to Grant’s FIRST birthday party.  I figured if anybody would be able to get her out of her bad mood, it would be them!!

As it turns out, she DID have fun.  Maybe a little too much fun considering she was *under the influence.*  She was running with the boys, tripped and fell.  Not just any ole fall, either.  She looked up and her face was covered in blood.  I couldn’t even tell if it was from her mouth or nose.  She was screaming and, you know the nurse, was freaking out on the inside.  I held it together for her though and got her all cleaned up.  It was coming from her nose and it took a good 10 minutes to get it to stop bleeding. Dave, Mia and I were all covered in blood.  Mia’s cute little dress, my jeans, everywhere.  Scared the beejeez out of me.

IMG_4596

Ahh, motherhood.

After that little incident, we decided to not ruin the birthday party and just take our poor baby home.  Mia and I napped while daddy cut the grass.  After she woke up, she was a bit better, so we went outside, had popsicles and colored with chalk.

IMG_4627IMG_4628IMG_4631

My girl woke up with a low grade fever this morning.  I’m not quite sure if it was a combination the HOT going on inside the house or a sickness.  Considering she was a grump-o-saurus when she woke up and was all sneezy and coughy and congested, I’m assuming it was sick related.  I gave her some Motrin, NO Claritin :)

I don’t know about where you live, but here?  It got up to 84 degrees.  Um, March??

I had to turn on the air.  We were all miserable and couldn’t sleep well because it was so stuffy in the house.

Once the Motrin kicked in Daddy, Mia and I took a little trip to the library.  We checked out some movies and played with blocks!

IMG_4609

Funniest thing ever…

On our way home we had all the windows rolled down and Mia kept telling daddy, “Daddy! Turn it off!”  We didn’t know what she was talking about until we looked in the backseat…

IMG_4611

HAHA!!  She was wanting the window up because it was blowing her hair all in her face!  Dave said, “You want me to turn the wind off?” and Mia said, “yeah!”  Silly girl!

After daddy left for work Meme came over to visit!  We played some t-ball and played with bubbles and our water table!

IMG_4614IMG_4615

IMG_4612

Like her momma :)

IMG_4618IMG_4623

Once she was sufficiently freezing we came in, made some pink lemonade cookies and took baths.

IMG_4633IMG_4636

While I was putting in these in the oven…

IMG_4632IMG_4634

This happened.  Just helped herself out.  HA!

Now were are sitting here watching Cinderella!

IMG_4638

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this time of year!

So sorry for the useless information and cute picture overload :)

Oh, there are so many things!  Let me start with a small list…
  • Jesus
  • Mia
  • Husband
  • My family
  • Beth Moore
  • My friends
  • Our ABF group
  • A newborn baby

The list could go on and on!
What are some things that make you smile?

My Cinderella

As I was on my home from work this afternoon, a song came on that I had never heard before. Maybe it's an old song and you've heard it, but it was my first. I heard something about Cinderella and it caught my attention.  So I turned it up, and really listened to the words.

You guys? I cried through the WHOLE song.  The name of the song is "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman.

 Have you heard it?

It is basically one of those daddy-daughter-time-goes-by-too-fast type songs.  Maybe it was because my lady friend AF came to visit, or because I was there not too long ago with my dad, or because I have a daughter. Most likely a combination of the three.

But, they get me. Every. Single. Time.

Here are the words...

She spins and she sways to whatever
song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my
shoulders.

It's been a long day and there's still
work to do
She's pulling at me saying, "Dad, I
need you
There's a ball at the castle and I've
been invited
And I need to practice my dancing, oh
please, daddy, please."

So I will dance with Cinderella while
she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince
never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella, I
don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will
strike midnight and she'll be gone

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be
impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the
dress
She says, "Dad the prom is just one
week away
And I need to practice my dancing, oh
please, daddy, please"

So I will dance with Cinderella while
she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince
never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella, I
don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight and
She will be gone

But she came home today with a ring
on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they
had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six
months away
And I need to practice my dancing, oh
please, daddy, please"

So I will dance with Cinderella while
she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince
never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella, I
don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight and
She'll be gone

Are you crying? Because I am.

Now that I am a mother, I think back of what my dad must have went through.  When I started falling in love with another man.

Dude, it's hard being a mom, but being the dad of a daughter?

I can't even imagine.

Now, don't misunderstand.  Dave is my soul mate and the love of my life, but my daddy?  Not one person in this whole world could fill his place in my heart.  I hold something very very special for him that I just can not explain.

And? I have a feeling the Mia is going to break her daddy's heart, unintentionally, just like I did mine.  But I hope that they always maintain a close relationship and that her daddy remains her #1 man!

I have a feeling that I'm going to need to be strong because I am going to have to be there for my husband when he gives our daughter away one day.  And that day will be here WAY too soon.

And poor Poppy is going to have to give, yet another girl of his, away...

Here is the link to that video, in case you want to sob...

A BIG, FAT NOTHING!

That’s what we did this weekend. And?  I loved, loved it.

I can’t even tell you how long it’s been since we just sat at the house and lounged around.  We, or I, so needed it.  Granted, I did just have surgery, so I didn’t quite feel like doing much, but still.

IMG_4528

Taking a page out of momma’s book!  I got up for a second and came back to find her in my spot, on my heating pad! HA!

IMG_4533

Silly little girl!

Today, Dave took Mia outside while he cleaned out the garage and she loved it!  The weather is getting warmer, so all of us are loving being able to get outside!

IMG_4534

Playing in her wagon!

After daddy left for work, Mia and I took a nap, followed by bath time for the girl.  I am having one-of-those days, so I decided we would share some ice cream!  (She had grilled chicken and carrots for dinner!)

IMG_4536

Straight out of the carton. Don’t judge me.

IMG_4540

She took the big spoon and gave me the baby spoon. Slick move, sister.  Slick move.

IMG_4545IMG_4543

(taking pics of herself with the “front” camera!)

And it was DEEEE-licious!!

Now, hopefully I can get out of my funk.  We are supposed to have very nice weather all week, so I may be doing lots of zoo trips and outdoors time.

How was your weekend?
